Less Is More
Isn't it true that the Vietnam War Memorial, now widely lauded for its
awesome serenity, was first highly criticized as being too simple? Anonymous

Milking It
I think it is completely wrongheaded to rush in to choosing a design for
the World Trade Center and that it is politically motivated...the Republicans...will
try to take as much credit for this movement forward as possible, and
will milk the entire incident of 9/11 on behalf of the Republicans for
all it's worth. Katherine Boyd

Protect Slurry Wall
Why expose the slurry wall at all? from a security standpoint, what could
be more vital to secure? everyone in the world now knows that that wall
is all that holds the Hudson at bay? kevin on chambers

Dank Pit
At least it's not a dank pit often/always cast in shadow. The only subgrade
outdoor plaza in NYC that's worked is Rockefeller Center.... After various
remodelings over the years, the subgrade plaza in front of the General
Motors Building on 5th Ave. across from the Plaza Hotel was finally filled
in because it was always cold and dank down there. Reggie Atkinson

Wrecked Arches
what happenned to the haunting, twisted wrecked arches that were the most
beautiful part of the origianl WTC anyway, that survived like vaults of
a giant cathedral amidst the burning rubble? Anonymous
--------
Exterior Skeleton?
I want to point out the lack of the most memorable image of the sight of
the attack-the jagged exterior skeleton piece stuck like a knife in the
rubble (and our hearts). Kevin Cloutier

Bring Lights Back
What about the possibility of bringing the Memorial lights back? V

"Me, Too!"
Too bad this design was chosen. Maya Lin designed one of the most beautiful
memorials ever built by man.
Unfortunately, this is now a "me, too" project. Tony Jannetti

Dullsville
It's dull, it's too large and it's definitely not New York City.
none of them were....
It's amazing to me how vigorously hard politicians work to ignore the
feelings of the people while at the very same time, pretending to
listen to them. Viv, Brooklyn

Wet, Cold
It looks very much like El Centro Cultural de la Villa in
Madrid, Spain. When it's windy, you get wet, and it's always cold there. Bonnie Rosenstock

The Answer!
A street level plaza is the answer! Also, note the similarity to Norman
Foster's proposal for the voids. Clearly this memorial design is the most
apt. Anonymous

Struggling
How can we have a memorial that is pleasing or that brings
some kind of closure when we are still struggling to understand
what happened, who is responsible...? Suzy Sandor, NYC
--------
Loss Is Loss
one of the first comments i heard about the chosen design was from a family
member who was complaining about the lack of access to the bedrock. give
me a break.... why do they continue to act like no one in history has
ever suffered the way they have suffered?
my father died of cancer this year - there's no fund set up for him, there's
no multi-million dollar memorial....
in the end, loss is loss. joe, near ground zero

Souls In The Void
The whole WTC site design has been crippled by the absurd notion that
the souls of the dead somehow linger only in the void left by the twin
towers.... Robert
--------
Families In Control
Regardless of the design selected for the WTC memorial, I feel the victims'
families have attempted to usurp the land and sky of all New Yorkers and
Americans. I have great sympathy for those who lost loved ones. I certainly
feel it is counter-therapeutic to give the families such power and such
a loud voice regarding the rebuilding of the entire site. sara
