MIKAELA MAYER (Lightweight 132lb/60kg)
From: West Hills, CA
Age: 21
Age started boxing: 17
Highlights: National Golden Gloves Champion. Two-time USA National champion.

Mikaela Mayer works as a bartender to support herself while boxing. She says she's lucky her boss gives her time off for tournaments and training camps. Last year she spent a month in China, training alongside the women's team there. Mayer says she was a “bad kid” growing up. As a teenager, living with her dad, she wouldn’t come home for weeks at a time.  During her senior year of high school Mikaela decided to change things. She walked into the gym closest to her house and started boxing. The coach said she was too old to start; Mikaela was determined. Girls classes were only held two days a week; Mikaela showed up five.
