Performance Club Takes On Abramović Exhibit
Monday, April 05, 2010
Performance art has invaded New York museums with a vengeance this winter and spring. So I figure the Performance Club might as well, too.
Some of us, myself included, have already seen the Abramović retrospective at MOMA. (You can hear my thoughts on the installation here). On Friday, April 30, I'm going back for seconds. Who's in?
I plan to arrive at 3 p.m., and the lovely folks at MoMA are giving us 10 free tickets. Please R.S.V.P. by Friday, April 9 if you're interested and we’ll draw the winners out of a hat. Just leave a comment below and we'll notify the winners via email next Monday. Just be sure you can firmly commit to attending that day and notify us if you have to cancel so another P'Clubber can benefit from the free ticket.
Of course, everyone is welcome to join at 3 and pay admission. Or come an hour later and wait in line for free Friday tickets. The museum doesn’t charge entry from 4 to 8 p.m., which means it will be packed.
Though, I think that aspect will only add to the show’s live elements when people don’t have that much room to maneuver. What do you say when you bump into a naked person, especially if she’s not allowed to speak? Should prove interesting.

I'm hoping to see you there! But I suppose chances are that I'll never be able to find the rest of you, since I'm coming later for the free admission.
This free ticket giveaway is now over. The P. Club members who won were contacted via email on Monday, April 12th. Stay tuned for future P. Club outing announcements and ticket giveaways!
Me plus one for the hat!
I unfortunately am not able to join this outing, and I wish I could - I have seen the show and it's a lot to process, especially in that setting. It's great that MoMA is giving such a big platform to this work, but to me, it's a curious venue for this work and the individual pieces don't hang together as a show. And then the work itself - some so lyrical, some less so - oh, for a good P Club discussion to tease it all out...!
Enjoy all and look forward to comments following the outing!
Two chairs with table.
She is some kind of rough saint.
Look again; look more.
The author of that rather lame ode is a MoMA member, so he'll simply show up if he's able.
Please drop me in that hat.
Put me in the hat!
hi. my brother raved about this show. i would love to go.
Perhaps we should all wear costumes ... you've probably all seen this, but just in case:

I'm all for stunts. However I have heard some pretty disturbing stories about MoMA visitors fondling, lurking around and otherwise totally creeping out the naked performers upstairs. Security has had to escort them out. Way to go, art-lovers of New York. Really classy.
@cc -- not sure about the after-show activities. Depending on the size of the group and how long we spend with the show, we'll either hang out in the museum or head to a nearby watering hole.
Yes, put me in the hat. I'll wear my hat.
Hat please! And about that pee costume, I'm looking for one with Alexander Wang written all over it.
Me plus one would love to come.
Where's the after-discussion?
I will attend. I am a MOMA member so no need to put me in the raffle.

i'm preparing my special pee costume in case my name comes out of Carrie's virtual hat and i have to sit with this woman for hours.
I would like one of them tickets! My first P Club outing, yes please, thank you!
Put my name in the hat--have seen it already, last Thursday--it was a madhouse ,but must see it at least once probably twice +more---the show is very dense. 40 years!
Hi, I've been wanting to see this, so this is all the more incentive. :)
Would love to attend, have heard a lot of great things about her work. Thanks!
