A 29-year-old U.S. Marine from New Jersey died during combat operations in Afghanistan on Tuesday, Pentagon officials said.
Sergeant Joseph D'Augustine of Waldwick, N.J., was part of an explosive ordinance disposal unit and was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.
He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, part of the Second Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.
The military says his unit was conducting combat operations in the Sangin district of Helmand province in Afghanistan. There was no other information immediately available on his military service.
A sister, Michele Kulesa of Mahwah, tells The Record newspaper her brother was due to come home in 15 days to attend the May wedding of another sister.
D'Augustine graduated from Waldwick High School in 2001. He wrestled and played football in high school.
