GM Agrees to Pay $19M for Toxic NJ Clean Up

General Motors has agreed to pay $19.5 million to clean up toxic pollution in New Jersey on portions of the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers and Newark Bay.
The U.S. Department of Justice says it's the tenth in a series of environmental liabilities around the country in which "Old GM" -- the company before its bankruptcy restructuring -- agreed to clean up several superfund sites.
In New Jersey, federal prosecutors alleged the company released hazardous substances from its Hyatt Roller Bearings automotive facility in Harrison into the Passaic River from 1918 until 1970.
