2005 marks the 19th season John Schaefer has been presenting a groundbreaking series of concerts as part of his nightly New Sounds program. This year’s highlights include new commissions from Bang on a Can’s People’s Commissioning Fund as well as original silent film scores from the World Financial Center.

From the New Sounds Live concerts at Merkin Hall, the Bang on a Can All-Stars perform two newly-commissioned works and a new music classic with special guest Philip Glass. Carla Kihlstedt: The Long and Short of It: a Brief History of Chatter; J. G. Thirlwell: Anabiosis; Philip Glass: Music In Similar Motion.

From the New Sounds Live concerts at Merkin Hall, the Bang on a Can All-Stars perform a newly-commissioned work, revisit one of their first commissioned pieces, and a special encore work by Philip Glass. Cynthia Hopkins: Song Before Love Songs (a post-apocalyptic requiem for the human race); Dan Plonsey: The Plonsey Episodes.
