Morning Fodder: Four Tweetables from the IAFC and BL Show Crews

Tuesday, May 03, 2011

From the drop in TV ownership to the way you should explain bin Laden to your kids, here's a look at four stories the IAFC and Brian Lehrer Show folks are perusing on this Tuesday morning.

John Keefe points us to a Brian Stelter story citing the fact that "For first time in 20 years, the number of homes in the U.S. that own TV sets has dropped. His words? "Wow." (via NY Times)

Jody is checking out this awesome environmental feel-good/feel-bad U.S. map interactive. Turns out New Yorkers use little energy, have crappy air. (via Mother Nature Network)

Caitlin: I'm reading this Washington Post piece about "How to explain bin Laden to your kids." something I'm especially glad I didn't have to do 10 years ago. (via Washington Post)

Paige points us to a Dexter Filkins piece attempting to address what's on a lot of minds two days after bin Laden's death - what Pakistan knew. (via New Yorker)

On domestic issues, there certainly is a clear choice! BUT on foreign affairs the Romney camp doesn't have a CLUE!

Let's have the media agree to refer to our fallen enemy as bin Laden. That way they won't be tongue-tied and can reffrain from mixing in Obama's name.

The Republican chorus praising rendition and harsh interrogation are against Obama no matter what he does. What they leave out is that interviewing our captives is not that complicated, and psych ops experts verify that kindness goes a long way to obtaining useful information. Our enemies are not capable of 20th or 21st century warfare. Their level is donkeys for transport, and hand-held weapons. No aviation, no armor, no surveillance technology. They do have mines and IED's, but that is centuries' old technology. The reason it's taken a decade to get bin Laden is that Pakistan has systematically undermined any authentic search. They are not our friend in the war on terror. Their paranoia about India, and their hunger to dominate Kashmir and Afghanistan require a quagmire that saps our strength. Time to cut off their ATM and to bring the troops home. As Karzai said, global terrorism no longer makes its home in his country.
