Gingrich's Top Staff Resigns En Masse - Because He Tweets Too Much?
Thursday, June 09, 2011
You may recall that Newt Gingrich announced his campaign for the 2012 Presidential race over twitter.
That might have been more controversial than initially appeared. Gingrich's bumpy campaign just lurched with the resignation of six top staffers. Politico reports that campaign manager Rob Johnson, strategists Sam Dawson and Dave Carney, spokesman Rick Tyler, and consultants Katon Dawson in South Carolina and Craig Schoenfeld in Iowa all stepped down over a "different vision" for the campaign.
Apparently, Gingrich is more enamored with the power of social media, like twitter and Facebook - where he posted this afternoon that he would truck on without the aides who abandoned ship - than he is with old-school boots on the ground campaign techniques like kissing Iowa babies. Schoenfeld said he was upset that Gingrich hadn't scheduled any appearances in Iowa during June and few in July. Instead, he took a cruise last week in the Greek isles with Callista (where he continued to tweet).
