One NY Artist: Emeline Michel

There are thousands of artists in New York City perfecting their craft in studios, basements and on stage. WNYC is bringing some of them to the spotlight, in their own voices.
Singer-songwriter Emeline Michel has been living in Harlem for nine years. But she still considers Haiti, the island where she grew up and got her start as an artist, to be her real home.
Michel is about to release her tenth album, Quintessence. She spoke to WNYC's Tracie Hunte about how her career began and where she's heading next.

Hi
I have been following Emeline for awhile now. I never had the pleasure of meeting her or seeing her performed. I was listening to some her songs, you can tell she is authentic, down to earth kind a person, singing about the reality of a country we both love so much. Thank you Emeline for mesi lavi, a song that we all can identify with.
