A chair is pushing back from the table at The New York Times.
The paper's food critic, Sam Sifton, will become the National Desk Editor after two years of tasting and writing about the city's delicacies.
"This is a writer with this tremendous cultural rolodex," said Time Out New York food and drink editor Jordana Rothman. "In his reviews you got this sense of context beyond the guys in the kitchen and the hangers on in the dining room, you got references to Jay Z and Sondheim and The Ramones."
Sifton's final review is expected to run in the Times on October 12.

I read Sifton's Per Se review. I think it's gross to cover a restaurant like that, where the price of admission begins at $600 for two, without wine--prix fixe-- and where dinner with wine easily runs to $1,000. The Times should be ashamed of itself. ......Alan Littell, Alfred, New York
