Curse you, Charlie Herman!

WNYC
Charlie Herman, gloating. I'll never hear the end of this... Charlie Herman, gloating. I'll never hear the end of this... (Amy Eddings/WNYC)

It pains me to say this, but WNYC business editor Charlie Herman took the prize for best pie in this year's pie throwdown.

For another year, the crown of pastry greatness has eluded me. What will it take, judges? WHAT WILL IT TAKE?

My guess: more sugar. Herman's winning entry was a Crack Pie. It's a best seller at Momofuku Milk Bar. It's an oat crust shell filled with a custard of cream, brown and white sugars and eggs.

Herman won because the judges were in a sugar-induced fog and their judgment was clouded.
