WNYC's Guide to Outdoor Summer Film Festivals
Friday, May 27, 2011
“Top Gun” on the roof of the Intrepid. "The Brother from Another Planet" on the banks of the East River. "Ghostbusters" in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge. Nothing says summer like outdoor movies — and this year the city has a rich, diverse offering of free and low-cost flicks.
Choose one from WNYC's interactive map below, then grab a friend, pack a picnic dinner and check out a film under the city stars. Also, let us know what summer movie you're excited about by leaving a comment below.

Target Passport Fridays at the Queens Museum of Art screens movies outside in Flushing Meadows Corona Park for free every Friday starting in July: bit.ly/ppfridays
I've compiled a handy-dandy spreadsheet of films by date that some readers may find helpful: http://bit.ly/kLQi3T
@Zhenya @Emilie: Thanks so much for correcting us. We've updated the map!
Please note, McCarren Park seems to have gotten misplaces. It is in Greenpoint....
Helpful if you want to find an event by location without regard to its date. For me the location is the last consideration. If I want to find entertainment, finding one by date comes first.
Unfortunately on this page if you want to find an event by date you have to open every link one by one: quite a time consuming task.
I think the Intrepid is misplaced on the map. The Intrepid is at 46th Street and 12th Avenue. 150 12th Avenue is correct, but it's not at 24th Street.
FANTASTIC!! Thank you for bringing it all together in this map!!! Will certainly be catching many films with friends. A great first summer in New York! Thanks
What fun! Haven't been to an outdoor movie in years. The idea of a picnic with one of my buddies, sounds delicious, and with all the great take out places in the city, I don't even have to cook. Thanks Erica for your delightful column and all the good tips on how to enjoy this wonderful town.
