From WNYC's Audio Archives: John Lennon, Beatlemania, the Press
Friday, October 08, 2010
In honor of John Lennon's 70th birthday, we dove into WNYC's audio archives and came up with these classic recordings of The Beatles talking to the press.
One of the controversies that plagued John Lennon in the mid-'60s was a comment he made about The Beatles' popularity: "It's like we're bigger than Jesus." Lennon defends his comments in this press conference at Chicago's Astor Hotel in 1966.
In a 1964 press conference at Empire Stadium in Vancouver, the press is set loose on the fab four. Reporters quick-fire questions at the lads including "Would you move to America?" The band's frank answer: "Never!"
