Gig Alert: Erland and the Carnival

Tuesday, November 02, 2010

Erland and the Carnival
"Trouble In Mind"
Playing at: The Knitting Factory
(361 Metropolitan Ave., Williamsburg)
Get: Tickets ($12) | Directions

Erland Cooper is a songwriter from the foggy, desolate Orkney Islands located above the Scottish Highlands, and his eerie folk-pop seems to channel those misty vibes. The music’s also insanely catchy, and it doesn’t hurt that his backing band, the Carnival, is composed of some of Britain’s biggest talents, including Blur and Verve alum Simon Tong. The band's source material ranges from Blake’s poetry to English folk tales to Leonard Cohen verses. But the morose and magical has never been quite this danceable.

Hey Hannah! They certainly are! They have three more show dates this weekend: Tonight @ The Rock Shop. Saturday @ The Apollo Theater. Sunday @ Best Buy Theater (formerly Nokia Theater).
