(August 3, 2004, New York, NY) - WNYC, New York Public Radio®, today announced that four of its programs will air on XM Satellite Radio's New Public Radio Channel 133.

The Leonard Lopate Show and Soundcheck, two programs currently heard in the local New York market, will now be available to a national audience. PRI's Studio 360 , which is co-produced by WNYC and Public Radio International®(PRI), and The Next Big Thing, which is produced by WNYC and distributed nationally by PRI, will now enjoy an even wider reach into markets where they do not currently air. They will broadcast as part of a larger programming block on the channel offered by PRI.

XM Satellite Radio's Public Radio Channel 133 is scheduled to launch on Wednesday, September 1, 2004.

"We are thrilled to be involved in this innovative new platform for public radio," said WNYC President Laura Walker . "The audience for public radio has increased dramatically over the last several years, and XM's new channel makes WNYC's stellar programming, and public radio in general, accessible to even more listeners across the nation."

The Leonard Lopate Show offers some of the best conversations with writers, actors, ex-presidents, dancers, scientists, comedians, historians, grammarians, curators, filmmakers, and do-it-yourself experts. PRI's Studio 360, hosted by culture maven Kurt Andersen, is a weekly, one-hour look at the myriad intersections between the arts, popular culture and everyday life. The Next Big Thing, hosted by Dean Olsher, is a weekly magazine full of interesting characters, places, people, introduced to us through literary journalism, music, comedy, and original drama.

In addition to airing WNYC programs, XM's new channel will air programming from Public Radio International and its station partners Chicago Public Radio and WGBH Boston; American Public Media, the national production and distribution branch of Minnesota Public Radio; and Boston public radio station WBUR.
