Message from Laura Walker

WNYC's mission is "to make the mind more curious, the heart more tolerant and the spirit more joyful through excellent radio programming." The Sound Affects Initiative helps fulfill our mission, and our commitment to community, by helping us reach out to more minds, more hearts and more spirits.
New
York Public Radio offers information that enlightens, encourages and empowers.
WNYC 93.9 FM broadcasts a broad range of daily news, talk, cultural and
classical music programming, while WNYC AM 820 maintains a stronger focus
on breaking news and international/ global news reporting. The station also
brings our programs and hosts outside the studios to remote broadcasts and
other events around the city.
WNYC Radio's commitment to the community has always been an important part of our mission. Recent initiatives include Radio Rookies, a youth journalism workshop operating in all five New York City boroughs; consulting with the New York City Board of Education on the development of its new 9th Grade Music Curriculum; Soundcheck with John Schaefer, a weekday music and culture program that extends music education in its broadest sense to WNYC's diverse and growing audience; and the *STAR* initiative, which provides free on-air promotional announcements and website support to small cultural non-profit organizations.
Perhaps you are already familiar with WNYC. If not, I invite you to tune in. WNYC provides news coverage, as well as music and cultural programming you won't hear anywhere else.
As WNYC works harder to raise awareness of our station within culturally diverse communities in the New York Metropolitan area, we hope you'll lend a hand. By telling friends, family and associates about us, you can help broaden the range of people who enjoy the resources our station provides.
If you are a new listener, I warmly welcome you to WNYC's audience of more than a million New Yorkers!
Thank you,
