I am very pleased to have the opportunity to spearhead the Sound Affects: Diversity Audience Development Initiative. Sound Affects is an outreach plan designed to increase audience diversity for WNYC, New York Public Radio by deepening and expanding our community base. My vision for this project goes deeper than just informing new, culturally diverse audiences about WNYC, New York Public Radio. In reaching out to new listeners, it is my hope that the station becomes one of their regular radio choices at home and in their cars. We know new listeners will appreciate WNYC Radio, which offers a unique dose of thought-provoking programming that is sure to enrich their lives. We also know that in order to tune in, people need to be aware of us.
Through our media sponsorships, WNYC currently supports and participates in community and cultural events throughout the Greater Metropolitan Area. Recently WNYC has been a media sponsor of Harlem Week, The Asian American Film Festival and Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, among many others. The festivals and events WNYC sponsors reflect the cultural diversity of our city. For current media sponsorship information, we invite you to visit our Events page.
In January of 2005, the Community Affairs department launched Sound Affects, an e-newsletter specifically developed to create and build loyalty among multicultural listeners. The e-newsletter is a celebration of the diverse voices and issues heard on our air.
If you are a new listener, I welcome you to the WNYC family. If you have any questions or would like to lend your support to the Sound Affects: Diversity Audience Development Initiative, please e-mail communityaffairs@wnyc.org.
Thank you,
